CHARLOTTE -- Carowinds' historic waterpark could soon become the largest waterpark in the Carolinas.
The park is spending more than $50 million to add water slides and amenities to the existing Boomerang Bay.
The expanded waterpark will be named Carolina Harbor Waterpark and is expected to be nearly double the size of the existing water park.
"We got an advantage because we are crossing two states, some of the other waterparks are only 1 state, so they can't say that. We are the only water park in the Carolinas in 2 different states. We are huge now,” said Steve Jackson, director of construction.
The waterpark is expected to open this spring.
