ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- After its iconic 100-year-old canopy crashed to the ground thanks to heavy snow last year, Charlotte Appliance is set to get a new one.

The original canopy collapsed to the sidewalk back in March. The new 8,000 pound canopy was built by Premier Sign Systems. But, the process for building the canopy wasn't as simple as bolting it together. The manufacturing company had to get a permit from the city of Rochester before building could begin.

It's taken four men around four months to put the structure together. Along with the new look, the canopy has some updated electronics.

"Today everything is all LED," said Nelson Baranes, from Premier Sign Systems. "This whole sign will be run on about 4 amps, which is the equivalent to plugging in a toaster so they're electricity bill will go down and they will be very happy with us."

The new sign will be installed Wednesday. It's estimated to take 12 hours with the work of up to eight men.
