BRIGHTON, N.Y. -- A new boat launch near Meridian Centre in Brighton opened to the public Thursday

The Costello Group, along with the town and New York state, opened The Reserve Boat Dock and canoe/kayak launch. The $1.2 million investment is designed to encourage people to walk, run and bicycle between City Gate and the housing community. Also included in the project are 140 light poles along the corridor.

Officials say the new destinations are proof that good things happen when the public and private sector work together.

"We're happy that almost every day, I hear from residents here how much they enjoy the amenities and what has taken place this last year," said Anthony Costello, The Costello Group.

The Reserve Boat Dock can handle up to five boats at a time.

The locally-based Sam Patch and a state canal boat were the first vessels to tie up at the dock during Thursday's dedication ceremony.
