HENRIETTA, N.Y. -- Thousands went without power Friday in Henrietta. The power went out around 11:30 a.m., and by about 5:30 p.m., a Rochester Gas and Electric spokesman said it had restored power to the majority of the town.
A number of stores lost power during the outage, including parts of Marketplace Mall and Kohl's.
Traffic delays were also a problem as many traffic lights along Jefferson Road and-Brighton Henrietta Town Line Road were out.
Henrietta Fire Chief Jim Comstock said the outage kept his firefighters busy with numerous alarm calls and even a transformer fire.
"We had numerous calls for automatic alarms,” Comstock said. “We had a couple smoke in the building calls. Some of those were precipitated by dropping a leg of the power caused some of the electrical components like HVAC units and computers and those types of things to be damaged."
According to RG&E, recent rain caused underground flooding, which triggered the outage.
