BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The guys at Arty's bar on Peckham St. call it "Mt. Memorial."
"I think it's disgusting," said Paderewski Dr. resident Beny Hasfurter, Jr. "When they started dumping it, I said, 'That'll be there forever.'"
For people who live in this part of the East Side, it's never far from sight.
"It looked a lot prettier when it was white and it was the snow, but now it just seems to be decayed and trash and, I guess, whatever is going to be uncovered as it melts," said Dan Rusin, who lives on Lewis St.
But it's not just the appearance that's the problem.
"The wind blows different directions, you smell it. We've got all kinds of animals," said Eugene Kiszelewski.
Kiszelewski owns the G&T Inn. It's right across the street from the Central Terminal, where crews dumped tons of snow following the November storm. He says now he sees people leaving something else at the site.
"People are coming and dumping more garbage," he said. "Tires, televisions, everything. Even garbage bags, they put it by the pole. They drive in, stop at night when no traffic's going by, toss it, and drive away."
"We've had some people picking metal out of there, scrap metal. People with shopping carts go by, and they're actually rummaging through the snow pile," said Rusin.
No one we spoke to was surprised the pile still stands, but they say they would like to see the city take action to help the process go a little faster.
"Try to start knocking it down so it melts," said Hasfurter.
But neighbors say they think they're likely to have this mountain view for the next few months.
Requests for comment from city officials were not immediately returned.
