ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- A second day of searching at the Charlotte Pier didn't turn up any clues as to the whereabouts of a missing RIT student Max Maisel. The 21-year-old from Connecticut failed to return to his on campus apartment Sunday night.
Police and Monroe County Sheriff's deputies arrived at Charlotte Pier around 11 a.m. Friday. The SCUBA squad decided to continue the search despite the frigid temperatures and an unsuccessful search on Thursday.
This has become a long and agonizing process for the Maisel family.
"We've decided our philosophy is we're going to live one day at a time. Get through today, wake up tomorrow and worry about that. If you think about what's ahead, it would be very daunting and even more dispiriting that what we've got so far. So, we're going to get through today," said Max's father, Ivan Maisel.
Maisel's car was found parked near the pier on Monday. He was last seen Sunday night leaving the RIT campus, leaving his cell phone, house keys and photography equipment behind in his apartment.
Ivan Maisel said Wednesday that the pier is an area his son is quite familiar with. Ivan said the family, who are from Connecticut, visited the area every summer since 1999, and the pier is one of Max's favorite places.
Max Maisel is about 6-foot-5, weighs about 135 pounds and wears dark-rimmed glasses. Police ask that anyone with information on where Max Maisel may be to call the Rochester Police Department or 911.
