ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Juneteenth is next week and one local organization is gearing up with a special bike ride on Sunday.

The Juneteenth Underground Railroad Bike Ride will journey through key locations and landmarks across Rochester, reminding the community that they represent escaped enslaved individuals seeking freedom.

These stops will also feature guest speakers and entertainment, and serve as a reminder of the resilience and bravery of those who sought freedom during one of the darkest chapters in American history.

The bike ride, hosted by health & wellness organization EE Pathways, aims to promote free health and wellness services for Monroe County residents while celebrating the Juneteenth holiday.

"We're excited because this is our opportunity to celebrate freedom, an opportunity to proceed with a health and wellness journey," said Karen Rodgers, founder of EE Pathways.

The ride, scheduled for 11 a.m. on Sunday, June 16, will start at the Canalside Shelter at Genesee Valley Park. Cyclists are encouraged to gather at 10:30 a.m. for photos.

And there is still time to sign up. Registration for the Juneteenth Underground Railroad Bike Ride is free at EE Pathways.
