ROCHESTER, N.Y. — National Nurses Week continued Tuesday with this observance at the gravesite of a nursing pioneer in Rochester.

Lillian Wald is buried at Mount Hope Cemetery.

She was an early advocate of nursing education and is credited with coining the term "public health nurse" for any nurses working outside a hospital setting.

HCR Home Care hosted the event, saying it is important to remember Wald.

"It's important to keep Lillian Wald alive and to remember where nursing foundations came from and HCR Home Care is a form of public nursing," said HCR Home Care administrator Adrianne Mann. "And we want to give back to our public."

National Nurses Week wraps up on Wednesday.
