ROCHESTER, N.Y. — It's the season of giving, and some may be looking to give shelter animals a new home in the coming weeks.

Ace is a five-month resident at Lollypop Farm Humane Society of Greater Rochester.

“He has so much personality. He is just a bundle of love, with a big, huge smile on his face,” Lollypop Farm behavior and training manager Nick Lapresi said.

He’s one of several pets up for adoption this holiday.

But Lapresi says if you plan on adopting a pet as a gift, it’s important to find the right fit for that person-based on work schedule, personality, and other factors.

Ace, for example, is looking for a home without children or other pets.

And there are resources at Lollypop Farm to help with that.

“We do have gift vouchers for our animals. The biggest thing is if you’re going to get a pet for somebody, you should know them pretty well," Lapresi said. "And we can have our adoption counselors here set you up for success and find an animal that is going to be perfect for that home.”

And before going to a breeder or looking for a puppy, maybe give older pets like Ace a good holiday too.

“It’s all about the love, and we call it ‘Lollypop Love’ here. And what better opportunity than to give these guys a loving home like yours?” Lapresi said.
