A beloved member of the St. John Fisher College community has passed away.

Father Joseph Trovato passed away on Monday at the age of 90.

He served as St. John Fisher's first director of campus ministry from 1959 to 1989, and taught Italian at the college.

SJFC says Father Trovato's humble service and gracious spirit reached many on campus.

Father Trovato earned his degree in theology from St. Michael's College in Toronto, and was an ordained priest in the Rochester area for more than 60 years.

The Diocese of Rochester responded to Father Trovato's passing, saying in part:

"Father Trovato was known by many for his deep faith in God, humility and positive disposition. As he returns to the Lord, he will be sorely missed by many who benefited from his share in the priesthood of Jesus Christ."
