- Rochester artist Quinn Orr decided to honor the life and legacy of George Floyd through his art
- The painting was also a way for he and others to have a dialogue
- Orr believes the recent violence and rioting took away from the initial intent of the protest
For Quinn Orr, he says his painting of Floyd may be one of his most meaningful pieces of artwork. He decided to paint the portrait as a way to highlight police brutality in the country.
"I wanted to use my voice kind of make a stand, and kind of put a face to the brutality and the things that we do need to change in this country," Orr says.
For Orr, the painting was also a way for him and others to have a dialogue.
"Through my art, I've actually, you know, brought people together. We've talked about it. We've had discussions about it. And I think it's a positive message. And I think it's a movement in the right direction," he says.
With some of recent violence and looting that took place around Rochester on Saturday, Orr believes that it took away from the initial intent of the protest. He's hoping his artwork can serve as a reminder of the true problems at hand.
"With this picture I want to focus on kind of the real issue and stick to the topic, so we can use our voice to actually be about some change and actually bring about change," he adds.
