A Webster community is showing support for a teenager facing a health battle.
The hashtag #TeamJosh is spreading on social media pages in the town of Webster. That symbol of love and support is going a long way, as high schooler Josh Honebrink battles with cancer.
“Our motto here is Webster where life is worth living, and I think those are very sincere words," said his mother Gay Honebrink.
Those sincere words are what his family is living by, as the community surrounds them with support during a tough time. 17-year-old Josh Honebrink was diagnosed with a grade four tumor on his brain stem.
"Josh just a great kid that we've all grown up with, and since my whole life I've known him and every day in summer we just go outside play sports together," said his friend Jonathan Zimmer.
Josh’s favorite color is orange for the Cincinnati Bengals, and that color is popping on his home street of Shallow Creek Trail in Webster.
“They are his rock, and they just love him so much and they know that they can't take this tumor away but they want to show any kind of love and support that they can for him," said Sarah Honebrink, Josh's Sister.
“So my family and I did the lights," said Adam Cala.
"My family we started the GoFundMe and start selling bracelets," said Evan Maltman.
"My family started selling shirts," said Jonathan Zimmer.
His close friends have started initiatives including a GoFundMe, the orange lights around Webster, and selling shirts to help his family.
This isn’t Josh’s first run with cancer.
Jos’s dad David Honebrink said his son was diagnosed with a grade one tumor when was two years old.
But in the darkest of times, there's always a light of hope.
"We hope that he's going to be the one that beats the odds. We’re praying that he’s going to be alright, that he's going to survive it," said Gay Honebrink.
The family estimates that 50 to 60 homes in the neighborhood have changed their lights to orange to support team josh.
So far, the GoFundMe started by josh's friends has raised over $11,000 to help the family.
