ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A first of its kind project for New York state is coming to Rochester.
The Urban League of Rochester and local officials announced a new, affordable housing project in Rochester Monday.
It's called L2P Westside, and it will consist of 41 single-family homes for rent.
Those will then transfer to homeownership for the tenants after 15 years of renting, at a substantially discounted price.
"We all know that generational wealth is built through home ownership," Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren said. "And many people and many families don't have the opportunity to own their own home because they don't have the income and they can't get their credit in line."
The opportunity to buy a home in year 16 is dependent on meeting the requirements, which includes completing financial counseling and home-maintenance training.
