Three years after it was declared, the national emergency related to the global COVID-19 pandemic has come to a close. President Biden ended it Tuesday

A separate public health emergency remains in effect. It gives people access to free vaccines and testing. That's set to expire on May 11.

Fidelis Care in Rochester says there are options for anyone in danger of losing health care coverage.

"I think we really want to be able to reiterate that there is a whole continuum of offerings and if you no longer qualify for Medicaid, there's a really good chance you'll still qualify for excellent coverage through the essential plan or even through qualified health plans that now have additional expanded tax credits," said Megan Woodward, vice president of member retention for Fidelis Care.

The government enacted a continuous enrollment condition when the pandemic started in March 2020.

Fidelis Care says people who might lose coverage now need to update their eligibility information.
