ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A local health organization was recognized as a Healthy People 2030 Champion by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

The Center for Community Health And Prevention at the University of Rochester Medical Center received the honor.

The federal designation recognizes the CCHP's commitment to helping people achieve their full potential for healthy living.

Healthy People 2030 is the fifth iteration of the initiative, which sets 10-year national objectives for healthy living with organizations nationwide.

The center says there are simple things people can do that can better their health.

"In the center, we offer services for people to stop smoking," said Dr. Nancy Bennett, CCHP director. "That's probably the number one thing a person can do to improve their health. We also offer services to help people manage their weight and prevent diabetes. That is also a really critical thing to do to improve your health."
