GREECE, N.Y. — One by one, cars came piling into the parking lot at The Mall at Greece Ridge with people coming to get their flu shot.

"We get their personal information, then they'll drive forward to the next station where the pharmacist will screen them, make sure they are safe and getting the right vaccine for their age. We open their car door, we give them their flu shot and they drive on right through," said Michele Chantra, pharmacy manager at Ridgemont Wegmans.

Wegmans pharmacist Michele Chantra says this was their second flu shot clinic this season. She says they have seen people who haven't gotten a flu shot in a while.

"We're certainly seeing people that are getting flu shots this year that maybe say they haven't in several years or ever. But again, we know the flu shot is available and safe and it does work, so everybody is kind of embracing a bit more this year," said Chantra.

Emil Witt came with his wife Christa to get the flu shot Saturday. He says it's different getting a flu shot this year compared to years in the past.

"It's kind of unusual to sit in the car and get a shot, you know, it’s ok. But if it's what it takes to be careful about it, that's what it takes," said Witt.

With the COVID-19 pandemic, health officials say it's even more important to make sure you get the flu shot vaccine.

"With COVID-19 happening, it's important that we are keeping our communities and our families safe, but we're also going to look to reduce the strain systems this fall," said Chantra.
