Ernie Clement just likes to compete, in whatever sport is thrown at him.

At Brighton, Clement played hockey and baseball before earning a scholarship to the University of Virginia.

After winning a National Championship with the Cavaliers, Clement was drafted by the Cleveland Indians and has quickly made his way up to Triple-A, where he helped the Clippers to the Governor's Cup Title.

But when the COVID-19 pandemic hit, Clement was sent home from Arizona and needed something to fill the time. He started playing golf before baseball and started to amp up his game.

He's lowered his handicap to 3 and decided to take a shot at the Rochester District Championships. The RDGA is holding qualifiers, Wednesday in Naples at Reservoir Creek and Sunday at Chili Country Club.

The top 25 percent of the field in each advance to the District Championships at Brook Lea Country Club in Gates July 17-19.

"I've always just been a casual golfer, just go out and have fun, I never really throw clubs or anything but I get kinda into it, so, I was like, I might as well go out and try to compete with some good golfers and kinda see where I stack up," says Clement. "I love to compete and I love to be out there and I think it's gonna be a lot of fun."

He is scheduled to tee off at 9am at Reservoir Creek.
