The town of Greece made a big splash by opening up its spray park on Wednesday.

“I never thought I’d see this day,” said 10-year-old Emma Zinc of Greece.

What You Need To Know

  • The town of Greece opens its spray park to residents only
  • Wild Over Water Zone will limit capacity, with breaks to disinfect areas
  • The splash pad will be open Monday-Saturday, and residents must present valid ID

The town opened its zoo-themed splash pad called Wild Over Water Zone.

And it just so happens the opening fell on Emma Zinc's 10 birthday!

“I’m pretty excited," she said. "We usually come here a lot in the summer."

“It’s great that they offer this because, honestly, especially having two little ones at home, they go stir crazy and there’s only so much you can do with your child by yourself, and so now that they’re finally opening outdoors the park is open, we can still social distance, it’s perfect,” said Greece parent, Yvonne Zinc.

As soon as the temperature hit 75 degrees, Town of Greece Parks and Recreation Director Pete O’Brien said the town hall was flooded with calls.

“We wanted to open, and given everything we knew, we had to put some perimeters,” said O’Brien.

In accordance with state guidelines, once the spray park reaches maximum capacity, people will be turned away. Signage has been posted reminding those to practice social distancing and hand sanitizer stations have been set up.

“One of the first things that we did was we set up the time blocks, so two-hour increments, 10 to 12, and then we shut down at noon," said Pete O’Brien. "We disinfect all of our areas, the benches, the seating areas and even the buttons that the kids touch to get the water going. And it’s an opportunity for our staff to take a break."

As the summer season begins to heat up, you can bet more and more families will be looking to cool off.

“They’re slowly opening up more things so hopefully soon, we’ll be able to maybe go to Sea Breeze, said Yvonne Zinc.

The splash pad is free and open Monday through Saturday for the town of Greece residents only who will need a valid ID to get in.
