Last week, the Rochester City School District quickly transitioned to remote learning of its students due to staff shortages across the district.
The district says it is continuing to monitor staff absences and will transition to remote learning at specific buildings or the entire district when it reaches a point that absences can no longer be covered while safely educating and transporting children.
“Our scholars are incredibly resilient, and even though we had to make this shift, they have responded relatively well," Myers-Small said. "And again, they’re resilient."
Myers-Small says she anticipates the remaining 20 schools will stay remote until after Martin Luther King Jr. Day next Tuesday.
She says social and emotional learning is just as important of a function in schools as education, so she is committed to bringing students back as swiftly as possible.
