The New York State Education Department released its final guidelines for re-opening schools this fall — a 145-page document detailing district responsibilities to students and staff in order to re-open facilities in the time of COVID-19.
It provides guidelines for health and safety, facilities, nutrition, transportation, technology, school schedules, and student well-being — among others.
The health and safety sections detail how schools must conduct temperature and health checks of students and staff. It also calls on districts to submit plans on how they will conduct those screenings.
The guidance also says that social distancing of six feet is mandatory, and that class sizes and cohorts need to be designed to reflect social distancing capabilities.
