Rochester City School District Superintendent Terry Dade is leaving the district just 10 months into his post.

The Cornwall Central School District announced Dade as the next superintendent of the district, amid Dade’s own discussions of potentially leaving RCSD.

Dade released the following statement Friday:

"It is with a heavy heart that I provide you notice of my resignation, as required by my contract (i.e. 90 days’ notice), effective July 23, 2020.  I just  accepted another position and it was announced this evening.

I remain committed to supporting you and the entire district as we work collaboratively to adopt a balanced budget, and I will continue to provide the leadership and planning necessary to support our students and families through this challenging pandemic. Thank you for your hard work and dedication to the RCSD."

“Mr. Dade will begin in our district in July,” read a statement from Cornwall. “He is anxious to become involved in our community and will be working with the administrative team to make a seamless transition for the district.”

A big part of Dade's decision to leave the district is due to the Board of Education, and the ongoing financial issues with the school district.

In less than a year, Dade has closed a $65 million budget deficit for the 2019-2020 school year, and cut programs and hundreds of positions in the district to help keep it afloat.

Thursday, Dade said “the decision is not final” in regards to his position with the district.

Director of Communications for the City of Rochester Justin Roj released the following statement:

"Mayor Warren nearly a year ago said we would be back in the same position again if action was not taken at the state level to change the governance structure of RCSD and provide our children the education they deserve. Sadly, tonight she was proven correct. Again, the Chancellor of Education must act on behalf of our community."
