ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Rochester City School District announced changes to its attendance policies at Thursday night's board meeting.

It comes in the wake of the death of 14-year-old Trevyan Rowe who walked away from School 12. His body was later found in the Genesee River.

His family says they were not contacted the day he disappeared and a later check by the district showed that some teachers actually marked him as present.

Attendance will now be taken within the first 15 minutes of the school day. The school will notify family via robo-call one hour after the start of the day.

If there's no answer, a personal phone call will be made, and if that fails, a home visit will be made.

There will be four rounds of robocalls each day: One hour after school starts then at 12 p.m., 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.
