A teenager is now the youngest person to ever be elected to the Rochester Board of Education.

"Right now with contemporary issues, young people are at the top," said Isaiah Santiago, now a member-elect. "Young people should be at the top when it comes to solutions with issues they're facing. Young people have gotten active. My campaign was youth-led, youth-driven and youth-won."

The 19-year-old won one of four open seats on the board. The 2022 graduate of Rochester's School of the Arts says this is a representation of young people entering the political realm.

Santiago is also the founder of a local organization called We Got This. Its mission is to prevent gun violence in Rochester by getting kids into skill programs.
