GREECE, N.Y. — Police say a man suffered critical injuries when he was shot in Greece.

It happened around 11:45 p.m. Wednesday at the Greece Commons Apartments near Mt. Read Boulevard and West Ridge Road.

Greece police say when they responded, they found a man in his 20s shot inside a car. He was taken to the hospital with what police say are life-threatening injuries. Police say multiple shots were fired, with those rounds striking buildings, cars and other objects.

“We do not know if there was more than one shooter. There were several shots fired; one, at this point, appeared to strike the victim," said Deputy Chief Casey Voelkl of the Greece Police Department. "One important thing: This is not something random. The people in this complex here are safe, and we do not believe there is any further danger at this moment.”

Police believe the victim was in the car with several other people when he was shot. Authorities are now trying to locate them and the shooter.
