GREECE, N.Y. — Greece police have identified the woman found dead in her home on West Parkway Tuesday, and ruled her death as a homicide.
Officers tell Spectrum News Ottilia Piros, 36, was found inside her kitchen with a gunshot wound to the head.
They believe she was killed sometime on Monday, and was found when a family member called 911 for a welfare check.
Police say this does not appear to be a random act and believe the public is safe.
"There's a woman who has died of a violent and heinous act, right, and she's a young woman that lives in this community, and she's a family member. Around the holidays, not that any time is a good time to have this happen to somebody, but this during this time of year particularly," said Greece Police Deputy Chief Andrew Forsythe.
Police say they're still collecting evidence, but are confident there will be a conclusion to the investigation in the coming days.
