BRIGHTON, N.Y. — Anthony Bottom, the recent parolee convicted of killing two cops 50 years ago, was arraigned in Brighton Town Court Friday. He is accused of illegally registering to vote.
Bottom is charged with tampering with public records, offering a false instrument for filing, and providing a false affidavit.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges. Bottom, who also goes by Jalil Muntaqim, left the courtroom Friday afternoon with a number of supporters.
Spectrum News asked his attorney for comment and he declined.
According to court paperwork, Bottom attempted to register to vote on October 8, despite knowing he could not legally do so being on parole.
Bottom was released following his arraignment and is due back in court on November 16.
An online petition in support of Bottom says he filled out and signed a voter registration form as part of a group of documents he was told to complete to sign up for social services.
Bottom was convicted of shooting and killing two New York City police officers in 1971 when he was a member of the Black Panther Party.
