The Monroe County Sheriff's Office shared Friday that there have been more than 30 thefts since August spanning across six counties.

Deputies now believe they have some of the culprits in custody.

Sheriff Todd Baxter said three people, Kristina Marble, 25, Eric Smith, 34, and Jose Cruz-Rosado, 39, were arrested after a series of smash-and-grab larcenies, meaning they would allegedly break into stores and steal items.

Baxter said he is very proud of the police work done in this investigation.

"Just a phenomenal story of police work, of coordination, communication, and cooperation among all these agencies you can only imagine how difficult that would be to have all these police officers sharing the information across multiple jurisdictions, and then pursuing multiple criminals to the point of apprehension, and then charging with the cases that are able to be prosecuted in multiple jurisdictions with district attorneys," said Baxter.

In addition to communication and cooperation, one officer also rescued one of the accused burglars after he was having trouble swimming while attempting to flee.

Monroe County Sheriff Deputy Nicholas Mahoney jumped into the Erie Canal to get the suspect and sustained minor injuries in the process.
