The Rochester Police Department announced the arrest of a woman on Thursday in connection to the death of a 39-year-old man in Rochester in 2019.
The RPD Major Crimes Division arrested Kimberly Jones, 28, on Thursday and charged her with second-degree murder, first-degree robbery, first-degree kidnapping, and two counts of fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property.
On July 13, 2019 at around 4:30 p.m., Lake Section officers responded to Lakeview Park, where Samuel Ortiz, 39, of Rochester, was found dead in a garage.
Ortiz was last seen in the area of East Avenue and Alexander Street on July 7, and was the subject of missing person investigation at the time.
Police say Jones, along with another person, abducted, assaulted and restrained Ortiz, ultimately causing his death.
Officials say Jones, who was on parole for an arson conviction, had cut off her parole monitoring bracelet and was considered an absconder at the time of the murder.
Jones allegedly fled to Florida, and police say video evidence shows her in possession of Ortiz's property after his death.
Ortiz's car was found on fire in Brandon, Florida on July 9.
Jones is set to be arraigned Friday morning.
