ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Dawn Nguyen, convicted of purchasing guns used in the deadly Christmas Eve 2012 ambush in Webster, will remain in prison at the ruling of a federal judge.
Nguyen, now 28, is currently in a federal detention facility in Philadelphia. Her release date is scheduled for July 30, 2021. Her attorney filed last year for a reduced sentence in the U.S. Court of Appeals, but that was denied in April.
Nguyen was convicted of falsifying business records in relation to the purchasing of the firearms. She served 2 1/4 years in state prison, which ran concurrently, then was transferred to the federal facility.
On December 24, 2012, William Spengler fired upon West Webster firefighters who responded to his burning home. Webster Police Lt. Michael Chiapperini and firefighters Tomasz Kaczowka, Theodore Scardino, and Joseph Hostetter were shot; Chiapperini and Kaczowka died from their injuries.
Spengler died of a self-inflicted gunshot. His sister's body was also found in the rubble of his burned-out home. Spengler, a convicted felon, had previously served time for killing his grandmother.
