The Yates County Sheriff's Office is investigating an apparent homicide. Sheriff Ron Spike says a passerby notified his office of a body found off of Adams Road in the town of Jerusalem around 8 a.m. Wednesday. Breanna Fuss has more.

JERUSALEM, N.Y. -- "It blows me right out of the water," Kevin Tyler, landowner of where body was discovered said. "It's just too close, too close."

Around 500 yards from Tyler's back door, a neighboring farmer discovered a body.

"He kind of saw something where these two vehicles were suspicious, where, and he spotted a shovel on the side of the road," Tyler said.

From there, Tyler said what was found in his backyard has left them with chills.

"He walked through the road ditch, through where he saw the blood on the log and spotted the blue tarp," Tyler recounted.

For Tyler, this truly "hits too close to home."

"Never in my wildest dreams did I expect something like this would happen in this beautiful territory," Tyler said.

For hours, the Yates County Sheriff’s Office and state police investigators combed through that beautiful territory, which surrounds Adams Road trying to find evidence. Other deputies stopped all cars passing by to interview drivers.

Sheriff Ron Spike said they need help from the public.

"It was a white male and we do not have the identity at this time," Spike said.

He explained the body was dragged from a car, into the woods, and found 50 yards from the road.

"Clearly this is a homicide investigation based on the information," Spike said.

Spike said the body has been taken to the Monroe County Medical Examiner. The autopsy will be done Thursday, hopefully giving investigators more clues.

"We don't have a lot of violent crime in this area, but we know how to investigate it when we see it," Spike said.

He added they've already ruled out the body belonging to the missing Ontario County 16-year-old Mennonite male

With a family of his own, Tyler said he'll be holding them a little closer Wednesday night.

"You just never know, you never know," he said.

Sheriff Spike has set up a tip line for anyone with information or to report and missing people.

That number is 315-531-8209.
