One man was taken into custody after a five-hour investigation in Greece Friday.

Police say 22-year-old Christopher Rivers Jr. shot a gun out of a window at an apartment on Affinity Lane around 2:30 a.m.

When police went to investigate reports of shots fired, Rivers refused to surrender.

The standoff lasted for several hours before Rivers was arrested shortly after 7 a.m. without incident.

No one was hurt, but authorities say a child was in the apartment when Rivers fired the weapon.

Police say Rivers will be charged with reckless endangerment, endangering the welfare of a child, and criminal possession of a weapon.

A nearby school, West Ridge Elementary, was delayed for one hour due to the large police presence.

Greece police were assisted by the Rochester Police Department as well as the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.

“Inside the apartment there were multiple people with a child. And the way it came it, he had fired a shotgun, multiple shotgun rounds outside the window," said Deputy Chief Drew Forsythe, Greece Police Department. "Nobody was struck, nobody was injured, but as you can imagine, the complex was shutdown for a long period of time which we opened up now."

An unintended result of the investigation: The Greece Central School District and Greece Police are asking residents and parents to make sure their phone numbers are up-to-date. A hyper reach went out Friday morning to alert parents about the school's delayed start, but students were still showing up to the school.

Parts of English and Fetzner were blocked off to traffic, but roads have since reopened.
