The Hamlin man accused of killing two people found in a burned-out car back in September appeared in court Thursday.
Mason Earle is charged with two counts of first-degree murder and arson.
He was initially charged with two counts of second-degree murder after police found the bodies of 20-year-old Alexander Burrow and 18-year-old Bruce Kane in a burned-out car in Hamlin.
Earle pleaded not guilty to those charges. Investigators say Earle shot and killed Burrow and Kane on September 9, before torching the car with their bodies inside.
Tuesday in court, the prosecution was presenting evidence that included a recording of an interview between Earle and the lead investigator from the Monroe County Sheriff's Office the night he was arrested.
According to prosecutors, drugs may have played a role.
His trial is expected to start March 18.
