A woman and her dog are safe, but her home is unlivable after a fire ripped through it Tuesday night in Henrietta.

Crews were called to Kramer Street, in a housing track off of Calkins Road, just after 9 p.m. for the report of a chair on fire.

When crews pulled up they found heavy flames coming from the front of the home.

They were able to get on scene quick and get the fire knocked down, but they say it did a considerable amount of damage quickly.

The 73-year-old woman was taken to the hospital as a precaution, but fire crews say she was lucky she wasn't hurt.

"I wanna reiterate to everybody, do exactly what she did," said Chief Mark Strzyzynski, Henrietta Fire District. "If there's a fire in your house, get out first, call us immediately, don't mess around with it."

Investigators say they are looking into whether there were working smoke detectors in the home.

The cause appears to be accidental, but it remains under investigation.
