ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The driver who crashed a Lamborghini into a fire hydrant Sunday night and fled the scene has been issued a ticket.

Rochester Police Department officials say 34-year-old Devin Tribunella of Pittsford was issued a citation for leaving the scene of a property damage accident.

If Tribunella chooses to contest the ticket, he would have to appear at the new Rochester Traffic Violations Agency on May 25th at 2 p.m.

Police say Tribunella crashed into the hydrant on East Avenue, which flooded the street between Culver Road and Argyle Street.

“The attention of the community seems to be transfixed over the last 48 hours, but it all comes down to a traffic ticket. There were probably 1,000 other little traffic tickets like this issued last Sunday or today and here’s one of them,” said James Doyle, Tribunella's attorney.

Doyle added that that his client is mystified by the attention.

"He’s okay to the extent that you don’t feel too good when you’ve had a bad fender bender like this, but physically he’s okay," said Doyle.

He says he began contacting Rochester Police because his client wanted to turn himself in on Monday. Although he didn’t hear back from them until the middle of the night, he says they handled the situation correctly.

“My hats off to the RPD, I think they had their priorities straight here. It may have taken them a little while to make their connection to get this lonely little traffic ticket, but in the meantime the police department was out taking care of the serious business that it has on a daily basis and even though others may have been fixated with this little item, they weren’t and had their priorities straight,” added Doyle.

Tribunella is the owner of the Royal Crown Pawn Shop in Greece. Some local residents said they’d never seen a Lamborghini in the area until recently.

“I saw this really nice yellow Lamborghini pull out of Fetzner going east and I was just under the overpass of the expressway. I saw it coming down and I thought, 'man that’s a nice car.' You just don’t see a car like that around here,” said Tom Weaver, Rochester resident.

Weaver added that you can’t miss a yellow Lamborghini.

“When I heard the news I was very surprised. I thought ‘well the car that I saw had to be the car that ran into that hydrant because there are not two yellow ones in town. That would be too extreme,’ so I figured it had something to do with it. I was surprised that somebody would just leave it,” he added.

The car had a temporary license plate. No injuries were reported.
