CHILI, N.Y. — Firefighters in Chili battled their third major fire in less than 36 hours.
This latest fire occurred at Ballantyne Road, near Theron Street, where a passerby noticed flames coming from the rental property around 5 a.m. Thursday.
Multiple fire companies were called to help fight the fire.
Police say no one was inside the home at the time the fire started.
"There has been, over the last week or so, there's been several," said Sgt. Robert Murphy, Monroe County Sheriff's Office. "That comes at the worst time with the frigid weather for the firefighters. They do a great job there in this weather."
RTS buses arrived on scene to provide some warmth to the firefighters, as well as hot drinks.
Officials from the Monroe County Sheriff's Office say there was a marijuana growing operation setup inside the structure, but added they are still investigating the cause of the fire.
