BRIGHTON, N.Y. — The Brighton Central School District says it will be starting its own Test-to-Stay program.

It would allow students who are exposed to COVID-19 to stay in school by taking rapid PCR tests. This comes after Monroe County said it would start giving out testing devices to schools across the county.

Officials will be sending out guidance to parents in the next week.

The district is also encouraging parents to vaccinate their children, saying COVID-19 cases amongst its unvaccinated students have increased slightly.

Last week, county leaders explained why the Test-to-Stay program has not already been implemented countywide. Dr. Michael Mendoza says the health department needs to look into how practical it is to test students before school every day, whether all schools across the county will be able to do it and what parents think of it.
