ROCHESTER, N.Y. — As the delta variant continues to spread and positive COVID-19 cases continue to rise, stricter visitor restrictions are coming back to Rochester Regional Health and UR Medicine's Rochester facilities.

At RRH, while negative COVID-19 patients can have one visitor at a time, there will be no visitation allowed for COVID positive patients, along with patients in the emergency department and the cancer infusion center. Exceptions include pediatric patients, labor and delivery patients, patients with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities and cognitive impairments, including dementia, and patients at the end-of-life. Visitors must be 12 years or older. RRH's policy begins Wednesday at 9 a.m.

The policy change applies to the following RRH locations:

  • Clifton Springs Hospital & Clinic
  • Newark-Wayne Community Hospital
  • Rochester General Hospital
  • Unity Hospital
  • United Memorial Medical Center
  • Rochester Ambulatory Surgery Center
  • Linden Oaks Ambulatory Surgery Center
  • Westfall Ambulatory Surgery Center

Masks are required for patients and visitors inside health care facilities statewide. Temperature checks and screening for COVID-19 symptoms will be given for visitors entering the facilities.

For UR Medicine’s Rochester hospitals, Strong Memorial Hospital and Highland Hospital will not allow visitation for adult COVID-positive patients, starting at 8 a.m. Wednesday. Non-COVID patients may have two designated visitors, but only one per day. URMC says that exceptions wil apply, and that there are different guidelines for pediatric patients at Golisano Children’s Hospital. They are encouraging visitors check each individual hospital website for details.
