The City of Rochester held a pop-up COVID-19 vaccination site at the Campbell Street R-Center Saturday.
The pop-up sites are a partnership between the state and community leaders to bring vaccines to those hit the hardest by the pandemic.
The state says it's holding the pop-up sites to ensure equitable distribution of vaccines.
228 people were vaccinated at the site, officials say.
"People want it,” said Daniele Lyman-Torres, City of Rochester commissioner of recreation and human services. “They call. We haven't had trouble. People show up early for their appointment, they're ready to go, ready to receive it, because they do know what it means. They know it has an impact on what is going to happen in terms, not just reopening, but what would happen if they did contract it."
"Companies have been working around the clock trying to get access, get this developed and get it into to the areas that its needed,” said URMC pharmacist Jason Deshaies. “We're just happy to be part of that process."
The vaccine site will reopen in three weeks to give individuals their second dose.
