ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Following the FDA advisory panel recommending the Pfizer vaccine for approval, local researchers held a virtual meeting to discuss safety and efficacy.
Doctors from the University of Rochester Medical Center, an institution heavily involved in vaccine trials, hosted the discussion.
They were joined by a trial participant, and say the long history of research into vaccines goes a long way into creating safe and effective new vaccines.
Doctors also discussed the side effects, while the participant says she is confident in the process.
"Usual side effects similar to a flu shot, sore arm, little bit of fever, fatigue the next day. I think that we cannot comment on long-term effects because this is a brand new vaccine and we're only several months into it. But we have no reason to think that there would be long term side effects," said Dr. Ann Falsey, professor at URMC Department of Medicine.
"I had no hesitancy to do it back then I would have no hesitancy to do it now if I found out I got the placebo and had the opportunity to get the actual vaccine I would go ahead and do it," said trial participant Rebecca Timmons.
