Staff cuts could be coming to the city of Rochester. A city spokesperson confirms Mayor Lovely Warren is expected to announce an unknown number of layoffs in the city's 3,000 employee workforce.
According to the city, the reductions would be focused on employees who would earn the equivalent or more with unemployment benefits.
The announcement is expected to be made within the next few weeks.
New York state has paid out $3.1 billion in benefits since mid-March when the COVID-19 outbreak began to impact the region.
Mayor Warren will present the 2021 budget proposal on May 15. That budget year starts July 1.
