Keeping school spirit isn’t easy when schools are closed. Students and teachers at the Aquinas Institute of Rochester are doing their best.

Teachers are delivering instruction online to students who are home bound, due to the coronavirus-related shutdown. The ability to connect is priceless.

“To be with them and to see them kind of in their own environment, and to be able to interact with them is pretty awesome,” said Melissa Clark, a sixth grade teacher.

“One of the things that’s important to me is just because we’re not in school doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be connected,” added Aquinas principal Ted Mancini.

To try and keep school spirit alive, Aquinas is also rolling out a different virtual school spirit theme all week long.  Monday that meant wearing school colors.  Later in the week, it’s pajamas - instead of uniforms usually worn by students when they’re in school.

“Definitely not what I thought senior year would look like,” said student Hannah Bardeen. “It is really nice to see the teachers, see their faces and have real-time interaction with them like you usually would.”
