FAIRPORT, N.Y. — The Northside PTA is hoping to spark students’ love of reading by making it fun for students to get their hands on a good book.
Fairport is spreading the joy of reading by using a bright and colorful vending machine to do it. No, it‘s not a vending machine for snacks or drinks. It’s all books. A new book vending machine was just installed outside the Northside School library. It dispenses all kinds of books thanks to the Northside PTA.
“We were looking for something that we could get that was exciting and it just seemed like a great way to have the books displayed safe and really fun,” Northside PTA President Candi Carr said. “I mean every kid likes to get a little coin and get something out of the machine.”
The golden tokens will be given to each student on their birthday to use to get a free book. The machine is easy to operate. There’s a touchscreen.
Jordan Hagenbuch is a behavioral specialist for the district. She can’t wait to reward students with a new book.
“I think the kids are already excited about it so I think that is a huge bonus,” Hagenbuch said. “Anything that you can get kids excited about is reinforcing for them. So yes, we can use this to promote positive behavior across the board.”
The Northside PTA will use fundraising proceeds to keep the vending machine stocked with books all school year long. Districts interested in the vending opportunity can reach out to globalvendinggroup.com.
