FAIRPORT, N.Y. — As more companies rework return-to-office plans, workers are also rethinking the pros and cons of working from home. In Fairport, there’s a new co-working studio open to give people more workspace options.

The Hive opened in December at the Fairport Office Park. Owner Chelsey Zawadzki is a mother of two who saw the pandemic shift in the workflow and decided to open the co-working space to help other women get it done.

“If anyone is like me and having kids at home and dogs at home you just can't get the quality of work,” said Zawadzki. “This gives you the opportunity to still work from home if you want to, but have the opportunity to have a quiet workspace that you can be productive and not see your own laundry or own dishes staring at you.”

There’s plenty of table space and cozy couches to work from. There are private offices for rent and even a conference room. There is a day pass, monthly or unlimited memberships. Zawadzki is planning to offer childcare soon. The Hive is open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week.

“All members get use of office supplies and printers. We have paper and envelopes and coffee and snacks,” said Zawadzki.

Karrie Morgan is a mortgage loan officer. She says The Hive is a good go-between workspace for her.

“I can come here when I want,” Morgan said. “I can focus for two hours and then go back to the office or go back home and take some of the things at home for the kid's need. And the other awesome piece that we are just starting to dive into is the opportunity to network. We can all help each other’s businesses grow.”

“The Hive symbolizes we truly does take a village to raise a family and to go about our daily life and I think a honey beehive embodies that,” Zawadzki said. “Everybody has a job but we all collectively work together for the same thing.”
