Monroe County Executive Adam Bello has submitted his 2022 budget proposal to the county legislature.
The budget comes in at $1.28 billion in spending, and increase of nearly 3.5% over last year. It also reduces the tax rate by $0.07 to $8.46 per $1,000 assessed value.
Bello highlighted an additional $4.9 million for the sheriff's office, just over $7 million to repair and renovate shelters, lodges, courts and access roads across the county and $12 million towards renovations at Frontier Field.
"What people want is government to just work and get something done," Bello said. "That's what this budget works for people and it gets something done for people. And I think that if we can have a conversation at that level and understand what's really in the budget and how it's going to impact and affect people's everyday lives, that this is a no brainer."
Republican Majority Leader Steve Brew issued a response to Bello's proposed budget, saying there are tax hikes, not cuts, in the proposal.
"In sum, County Executive Bello proposed a budget today that promises more taxes, more spending and more misdirection while insulting the intelligence of taxpayers, trivializing needed community programs, and claiming false credit and progress here in Monroe County," Brew said.
The county legislature will now hold hearings on the proposed budget before voting on it in December.
