ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The city of Rochester is on pace to see its deadliest year in recent history. A group of advocates say enough is enough.

Save Rochester held a forum Monday to discuss the uptick in gun violence.

Rochester's interim police chief, mayor and community liaison officer were all part of the discussion.

Their goal is to fight against police brutality, poverty and violence.

A common theme from the speakers is preventing violence by supporting youth, both inside and outside their homes.

"How do we keep youth from falling into this?” Rochester Police Interim Chief David Smith said. “Speaking as a father of five, and not the police chief, I can tell you it does, these kids are crying out for love. It takes someone to care about them and someone, if you're a parent, [to] look at their social media. You'll be amazed at some of these kids, you might not even realize that's my child. That's a completely different person."

Save Rochester is a non-profit, working to develop community-based programs to eliminate poverty and discrimination.
