The Pirate Toy Fund is celebrating 10 years of its Toys on Patrol program by partnering with every law enforcement agency in Monroe County.

The program offers toys to officers to keep in their patrol car, so they can be handed out as an act of kindness to children.

The Rochester Police Department was the first to participate in the program, and now with the addition of five more agencies, each one in Monroe County is taking part.

"They didn't hesitate for a second to be partners with us,” Pirate Toy Fund executive director Otto Harnischfeger said. “They though the idea was great, they thought the concept of helping kids in need. Anytime there's an officer involved, it's unsurpassed."

Officials say more than 15,000 toys have been distributed through this program in the past decade.
