Monroe County Executive Adam Bello signed a new energy upgrade and efficiency bill, OPEN C-PACE, on Wednesday.

"As we look around the world, it's only becoming more clear that we have to come together collectively to combat climate change and work towards a clean and sustainable future," Bello said.

OPEN C-PACE is not publicly funded, and it doesn't cost anything to tax payers.

According to Bello, this is a "win-win" situation, since it will create more renewable energy projects and jobs in the county.

"This program allows commercial and non-profit building owners to tap private financing to make energy upgrades to existing buildings or build new construction to higher energy standards," he said.

More than 50 municipalities are offering the program statewide, including Rochester, Buffalo and Syracuse, along with Niagara, Wyoming, Dutchess and Nassau counties.
