CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. — The town of Canandaigua broke ground on a new inclusive playground Tuesday.
The new Inclusion in Motion Playground will open on Outhouse Road after four years of planning.
It's the first playground in the country to receive Innovative Solution for Universal Design certification, a designation that means every child can play on it, regardless of ability.
Inclusion in Motion Board co-chair Mike Bentley says the inspiration behind the project is his son, and giving him and other children a way to play.
"The goal is for him to be the first one to walk on this playground and the inspiration, not only that he's had on our family, but on many other families in this community is the reason we are where we are today," Bentley said.
While there's no opening date yet, equipment has been ordered.
