The Henrietta Town Board approved two resolutions clearing the way for the solar panels to be built on a local farm in the town.

The solar panels will be built on the Remelt family's 100 plus acre farm near East River Road.

Namaste Solar plans to build about 18,000 solar panels on the farm. It's a 5-megawatt solar project that will convert sunlight into electricity.

They believe 1,500 homes could benefit from the energy, which in turn could lower the electric bill for many residents.

"I think it's a great thing for the community, opportunities for residents to save money on their electric bills, an opportunity for the Remelt's to have an additional income on their farm, and we’re creating clean and prosperous energy for the local Henrietta community," said Kyle Sundman, a Namaste Solar project developer.

Namaste officials say it takes three to six months to build the panels. They estimate people could start signing up to take advantage of the solar panels starting this summer.
