The former Shadow Pines golf course in Penfield is set to become a public, multi-use recreational area.

Out of five submissions, Penfield officials picked that option for the use of the 2,000-acre property.

It's expected to have hiking and biking trails, a disc golf course, and a pavilion picnic area.

"It's not just focused on hiking, it's not just focused on baseball, it's not just focused on a particular sport or use, but it gives the broadest shoes possible so as many residents of the town can come out and see the value in that beautiful piece of property," said Tony LaFountain, Penfield town supervisor.

The town board is expected to pass a resolution next week ahead of a meeting in early March where Penfield residents will be able to provide feedback.
